Skyridge QB Kaneal Sweetwyne Commits to BYU Football
LEHI, Utah – Skyridge High School quarterback Kaneal Sweetwyne has revealed his plans for the next step in his football career.
Sweetwyne has officially committed to playing for BYU football.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound quarterback from the class of 2026 made his commitment public on X.
“COMMITTED!!! #GoCougs #AGTG,” Sweetwyne posted.
Skyridge QB Kaneal Sweetwyne Joins BYU
BYU was the first school to extend an offer to Sweetwyne during his recruitment. He also received scholarship offers from Utah State and Washington State.
He becomes BYU’s third commitment for the 2026 class, joining Lehi EDGE PJ Takitaki and Justice Brathwaite from Gilbert, Arizona.
Sweetwyne is the first offensive player to commit in this class. According to 247Sports, he is ranked as the 17th-best prospect in Utah.
During the 2024 season, Sweetwyne earned 6A Honorable Mention recognition from the Deseret News. As a dual-threat quarterback, he threw for 2,633 yards and ran for 957 yards on 155 carries.
He was responsible for 29 total touchdowns (19 passing, 10 rushing) but also threw 16 interceptions as a junior.
Sweetwyne guided Skyridge High to the 6A Semifinals in 2024, where they were ultimately defeated by Lone Peak High School.
At the Under Armour Next camp in Salt Lake City last June, Sweetwyne was named MVP.
He visited BYU last April and shared pictures from its Indoor Practice Facility, where he received guidance from former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall.
Sweetwyne is the first in-state quarterback to commit to BYU since Ryder Burton did in the 2023 recruiting cycle. BYU’s roster currently includes former Skyridge quarterback McCae Hillstead, who transferred last season after playing one year at Utah State.
