As Super Bowl 59 approaches this week, both the Detroit Lions and their fans likely continue to reflect on what could have been during the past season.
Despite a remarkable journey that saw the Lions secure the top NFC seed, they unfortunately fell short of their ultimate goal.
Even though the NFC Divisional Round loss is still fresh for Lions players during Super Bowl week, it didn’t stop them from enjoying the events in New Orleans. Running back David Montgomery was among those making the most of the week’s festivities while also taking time to speak with the media.
Montgomery sat down with FanSided’s Ian McMillan from Stacking the Box and Malcolm Harris-Gowdie to discuss various topics, including Super Bowl 59 and his ongoing partnership with Scouting.
When asked about which team he would support on Sunday during the Super Bowl, Montgomery didn’t hesitate. His response was direct and straightforward:
“My team on Sunday is the Detroit Lions and I don’t care who wins.”
Although given the chance to make a traditional prediction, Montgomery passed on the opportunity entirely. This reflected the Lions running back’s intense focus and competitive spirit. After all, his only priority is the success of the Lions.
In addition to his thoughts on the big game, Montgomery discussed his recovery from last season’s injury and his insights into what the Lions need to do to claim a Super Bowl victory.
The running back emphasized that finishing games is crucial for Detroit, adding that if they can do so, they’re not far from bringing home a championship.
Shifting gears to Scouting, Montgomery spoke about his partnership with the organization, highlighting its importance and reflecting on how it impacted his life as a child.
Finally, Montgomery expressed how “super special” his teammate, Jahmyr Gibbs, is and praised their chemistry on the field. He shared how the two of them complement each other, helping to keep one another fresh during the season.
With any luck, the 2025 season will be even more successful for Montgomery and the Lions, and they’ll be able to complete what they began.
