On Thursday night at the NFL Honors award show, NFL Network reporter Steve Wyche took a photo featuring both Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff and defensive end Aidan Hutchinson engaging in a discussion with Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett. If you enjoy speculating, you might easily be led to believe that the two are making their strongest appeal to persuade Garrett—who publicly requested a trade this week—to join Detroit.
Before you purchase your Myles Garrett Detroit Lions jerseys, it’s important to mention that Hutchinson thinks there’s little chance Garrett ends up in Detroit. On the event’s red carpet, Hutchinson spoke with Dave Birkett from the Detroit Free Press regarding a possible Garrett trade, and it’s safe to say he isn’t expecting much.
“Many people are inquiring about that.” “I have no idea,” Hutchinson replied. “I believe — it’s impossible to have so many guys on a single D-line, I’m not sure.” “Who can say, but I believe it’s rather improbable?”
Clearly, it’s not in Hutchinson’s control, and there’s no reason to assume he understands what Lions general manager Brad Holmes is planning. However, he is making a valid point. Detroit is currently compensating Alim McNeill with elite-level wages, and Hutchinson is expected to join him in this status as soon as this offseason. Moreover, hardly anyone appears to recognize that a trade involving Garrett would severely impact the Browns’ salary cap, and Cleveland general manager Andrew Berry has consistently stated he is not interested in trading Garrett.
Hutchinson additionally provided an update regarding his injury status. Birkett mentioned he was strolling without any apparent limp, and the Lions defensive end still thinks he could have participated in the Super Bowl if the Lions had reached that stage.
“I believe that might be true, but it’s hard to say,” Hutchinson stated.
