Max Christie Opens Up About Being Part of Mavericks-Lakers Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis Trade

DALLAS — The trade involving Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic made waves before the NBA trade deadline. While most of the attention was focused on the stars, the deal also included other players, such as Max Christie, who was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. Christie shared his honest thoughts on being part of such a major trade.

“I was definitely shocked,” Christie admitted during an introductory press conference on Friday. “Any trade of that scale is surprising, especially for the players involved. But for me, I try to keep things in perspective. Being part of a trade like this is flattering. Initially, it was shocking, but after processing my emotions and understanding what happened, I found some positive aspects to it.”

“I’m really excited to be here and with this team. I’m excited to contribute to winning a lot of games… It was a shock, but after playing two games with the Mavericks, I feel much more comfortable now. I’m looking forward to building on that.”

Max Christie Quickly Adjusting with Mavericks

The Mavericks made significant moves ahead of the deadline, acquiring Davis, Christie, and Caleb Martin. While Martin is currently sidelined with an injury, he may return in a couple of weeks. Davis, who hasn’t yet played with Dallas, is expected to join the team for Saturday’s game against the Houston Rockets. Christie, on the other hand, has already played in two games for the Mavericks.

In those two games, the 21-year-old guard impressed, scoring 15 points in each game, making a strong early impact with his new team.

“Playing my first few games with the Mavs, the team culture has been great,” Christie said. “Everyone is so connected, communicating really well. As the new guy, I’ve noticed how they’re making an effort to help me feel comfortable. I really appreciate that about the organization and the team.”

“It feels like a big family, and I think that’s crucial for any organization aiming to win at a high level—having everyone on the same page.”

The Mavericks are focused on making a deep playoff run during the 2024-25 season. General manager Nico Harrison understood that trading Luka Doncic would be controversial but believed it would help the team achieve consistent success.

Christie will be preparing for his third game with the Mavericks, and his first home game in Dallas, on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Davis is set to make his debut for Dallas.

The game is scheduled for 3 PM EST at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, where the Mavericks will face off against the Rockets in what promises to be acompetitive matchup.
