WADA Takes Action Against Jannik Sinner
It appears that many believe the Italian player should have faced a more severe punishment. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) imposed a three-month suspension on Sinner after he reached a settlement. This ban followed WADA’s appeal against the initial decision to clear Sinner of any wrongdoing, which was brought before the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).
WADA issued a statement, acknowledging: “WADA accepts that Mr. Sinner did not intend to cheat, that his exposure to clostebol offered no performance-enhancing advantage, and that it occurred unknowingly due to the negligence of his entourage.”

The announcement has sparked reactions from fans, and even former players, such as Australian Nick Kyrgios, who voiced his disapproval of the suspension.
Sinner issued a statement in response, saying: “This matter has weighed on me for almost a year, with the decision possibly extending into late 2024. I’ve always understood my responsibility for my team and recognize that WADA’s strict rules play a crucial role in protecting the sport I cherish. With that in mind, I’ve agreed to resolve this case with a three-month sanction.”
Sinner will be eligible to return for the French Open, which begins on May 19.
Despite this issue looming over him for most of 2024, Sinner clinched nine titles last year, including the Davis Cup, and ascended to the world number one ranking for the first time in his career.
