Cowboys expected to make major trade with Jets for top RB.

The Dallas Cowboys are expected to strengthen their running game through a bold trade with the New York Jets, targeting a talented young running back.

It’s clear that the Dallas Cowboys will focus on upgrading their running back position this offseason.

After struggling with one of the worst rushing attacks in the NFL last season, the team’s new coaching staff is committed to improving the run game in 2025.

However, there is one challenge. Starting running back Rico Dowdle, who became the first undrafted player in team history to rush for 1,000 yards, is about to enter free agency and may demand a significant contract.

Given Dallas’ history in free agency, Dowdle might price himself out of the Cowboys’ budget.

This means the Cowboys could turn to the NFL Draft or free agency to fill the void, but there’s also the option of a trade. Sportsnaut’s Andrew Buller-Russ suggests this route.

“Rico Dowdle may return, but the Cowboys still need more explosiveness in their backfield,” writes Buller-Russ. “With a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, Breece Hall would be an ideal fit.

“Heading into the last year of his contract, the Jets might prefer trading Hall instead of paying a player the new regime isn’t fully invested in.”

What makes this potential trade even more appealing is Hall’s age—he’s just 23 years old.

Although Hall hasn’t yet had a breakout season and has played a full season only once in his first three years, he’s in the final year of his rookie contract and could present a valuable opportunity for Dallas, allowing them to focus elsewhere in this spring’s draft.
