The new defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions, similar to many members of the coaching staff in 2024, was in high demand during this offseason’s coaching carousel. Sheppard advanced from linebackers coach to coordinator, succeeding newly appointed Jets head coach Aaron Glenn.
During his initial public interview, held with Dan Miller and FOX2 in Detroit, Sheppard affirmed that he received additional job offers apart from the Lions. He remained for one reason: head coach Dan Campbell.
“Sheppard expressed that Campbell’s trust and support means everything to him.” “It’s why I decided to remain here instead of pursuing other options.” It would have been nearly impossible to get another job.
After humorously stating he wouldn’t depart even for a head coaching chance, Sheppard expressed his loyalty to Campbell.
“I have a great debt to Dan,” Sheppard remarked thoughtfully. Firstly, the faith he’s held in me since the very first day we met back in 2014 as a player … he was among the initial individuals who encouraged me to pursue this coaching opportunity. “He recognized it in me as a player.”
Sheppard’s response was impactful, as he has consistently expressed his gratitude for Campbell and the Lions organization for aiding him in becoming a successful coach.
