USC Trojans legend Amon-Ra St. Brown is now aware of who will officially assist new Detroit Lions offensive coordinator John Morton in the role of passing game coordinator. Even though it’s a longstanding college football adversary of the All-Pro wide receiver.

The franchise has formally presented the entire roster of coaches that will make up the 2025 Lions. David Shaw is joining to fill the stated position alongside Morton. He’s the same Shaw who previously coached and even attempted to recruit St. Brown to Stanford.

Shaw was in Palo Alto from 2011 to 2022. He led Rose Bowl appearances and Pac-12 championships during his time at The Farm. During that time, he needed to assist in strategizing against St. Brown’s USC squads from 2018 to 2019.

Those Trojan squads divided the series with St. Brown executing routes and making receptions. St. Brown managed just two catches for 39 yards in the 2018 matchup that Stanford won. However, St. Brown excelled against the Cardinal with eight receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns in the 45-20 victory during the ’19 season. USC and Stanford did not face each other in the shortened 2020 season because of COVID-19.

The Lions player disclosed on his St. Brown’s Podcast on Feb. 7 that Shaw was set to be part of head coach Dan Campbell and his team. St. Brown disclosed that he initially encountered Shaw during a recruiting trip to the Stanford campus.

“I’ve been acquainted with Shaw since our high school days.” “I always believed he was a wonderful person and truthful,” St. Brown stated. “He messaged me once he got the job.” I’m looking forward to seeing him. “It will be enjoyable.”

Stanford became one of St. Brown’s scholarship offers from Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. St. Brown ultimately agreed to the Trojans’ invitation to be part of their 2018 recruiting class.

This will mark the ex-college head coach’s initial sideline role since the ’22 season at Stanford. His final Cardinal team had an overall record of 3-9.

Shaw, however, jumped to the NFL afterward. He held the role of senior personnel executive for the Denver Broncos under Sean Payton for the past two seasons.
