The couple revealed every detail of the romantic proposal to Vogue, informing the magazine that they had embarked on a scheduled trip to the Turks and Caicos. Kuzma booked a private jet for the event and filled it with red roses, balloons, chocolates, and champagne. An unsuspecting Harlow believed that all the romantic decorations were merely for Valentine’s Day — but it became clear that Kuzma had a far greater surprise in store.
Once on the plane, the athlete requested Harlow to take a seat beside him and started to read her a poem he had composed, according to Vogue. “For a brief moment, I imagined in my mind, ‘This would be adorable if this were an engagement,’ ” Harlow reminisced to the publication. “However, I’m not someone who likes to make guesses or ruin a surprise.” It was merely a passing idea in my mind.
Her intuition was validated when Kuzma delivered the last line of his sincere poem: “Will you marry me?” He subsequently gifted her an 8.5-carat, oval-cut diamond ring that he had personally designed over three months, without any input from Harlow beforehand.
“I never specifically inquired about her preference for rings or anything like that,” he said to Vogue. “I merely aimed to illustrate a representation of her — something elegant yet decidedly timeless and simple simultaneously.”
Once the couple arrived on the Caribbean island, Harlow eagerly began to call her family and friends to share the news. However, her sister did not answer, and her mother suddenly concluded the call after stating she was too busy to chat. When Harlow and Kuzma arrived at their villa, everything fell into place: Their families were there to participate in the celebration in person.
