No Suspension for Jameson Williams from NFL Over Gun Possession Case

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams will not face any punishment from the NFL following an incident in October, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Williams was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for speeding in early October, where police discovered two firearms inside the car. One gun was registered to Williams’ brother, while the other belonged to Williams himself. At the time, Williams lacked the proper permit to carry the weapon.

He was briefly handcuffed during the stop but was later released. He didn’t face any charges, and Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy denied an arrest warrant.

The NFL typically does not require a criminal conviction to enforce discipline, and the league’s personal conduct policy states players can be suspended for illegal weapon possession.

Williams is heading into his fourth year with the Lions, who must decide whether to exercise his fifth-year option before May’s deadline.

He has already served two suspensions in his career. The first, in 2023, saw him miss the first four games for violating the league’s gambling rules, while the second, in 2024, resulted in a two-game suspension for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy.

The former Alabama wide receiver had an outstanding 2024 season, surpassing 1,000 receiving yards for the first time and scoring seven touchdowns, establishing himself as a top deep threat. He also had a 61-yard touchdown run in the Lions’ Divisional Round loss to the Washington Commanders.

So far in his career, Williams has made 83 catches for 1,396 yards and 10 touchdowns.
