Since A.J. Brown’s arrival in Philadelphia, he and Jalen Hurts have become one of the most dynamic duos in the NFL, though the Eagles quarterback-receiver partnership has experienced its share of tensions.
The pair ignited speculation of discord when Hurts and Brown seemed to be engaged in a heated discussion on the sidelines during an Eagles’ victory against the Vikings in 2023. These conversations emerged again after Brown candidly stated that the Eagles offense must enhance their “passing” in December.
Eagles defender Brandon Graham further intensified the situation when he remarked that “things have changed” between Hurts and Brown in the days that followed. “I’m not aware of the entire narrative, but I know that 1 (Hurts) is making an effort.” 11 (Brown) might improve slightly in his responses to situations. “They used to be friends, but circumstances have shifted,” Graham stated on SportsRadio WIP. “And I recognize that this is because life takes its course.” However, on the business front, we must ensure that personal matters don’t interfere with the business.
Graham did express regret and tried to retract his remarks. In the end, Hurts and Brown silenced the rumors when they linked up for a touchdown and celebrated together the next week. The tensions mostly eased, and the pair continued to assist the Eagles in securing the Super Bowl victory.
A couple of weeks following that Super Bowl win, Brown spoke openly about his relationship with Hurts, describing it as “normal” for them to sometimes clash.
“I’d be up here deceiving you if I said we never faced any problems,” Brown stated on Million Dollaz Worth of Game. “We’re two leaders striving for excellence, expecting greatness from one another and everyone in our vicinity.” Certain reports are accurate, while others are not. However, he and I are good men. We simply want to be excellent. We challenge one another, and at times we clash, but that’s to be expected. “And no one should worry about it.”
Brown went on. “It’s typical, but given the history of this team with [Donovan] McNabb and [Terrell Owens], everything is amplified tenfold, yet that’s not the situation.”
