Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has backed Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid in light of demands for his firing after a crushing 40-22 Super Bowl defeat to the Eagles.

While on The Steam Room with Ernie Johnson and Charles Barkley, Kelce provided a technical analysis of why the criticism aimed at Reid could be unfounded, highlighting the Eagles’ overpowering defensive line as the key element

“If they’re arriving home with four, it’s going to be tough,” Kelce noted, emphasizing the Eagles’ skill in creating pressure without resorting to blitzing. “They were incredibly powerful in the front line—Philadelphia during that match.” You can visit boots and engage in action to attempt to disrupt their pass rush, but if you don’t succeed on first or second down and fail to create favorable conditions on third down, it will be quite difficult.

The Eagles’ defensive strength was clear in the numbers, as Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes faced six sacks, even though Philadelphia did not send additional rushers. The Chiefs’ offense had a tough time, accumulating only 275 total yards and converting just 3 out of 12 third-down opportunities.

Kelce, a player under Reid during the coach’s time in Philadelphia, ardently supported his former mentor’s strategies. “I believe there are always aspects you reflect on that might have been improved,” Kelce admitted. “Honestly, I’m not sure if Andy could have done much.” I believe that was a team that clearly requires enhancement in that position this offseason.

The defeat signified a disappointing conclusion to what had been yet another remarkable season for Kansas City, who arrived at the Super Bowl boasting a 17-3 record and aspirations of clinching their third straight title. Though some critics, like FOX Sports radio host Rob Parker, have advocated for Reid’s dismissal, Kelce’s assessment implies that the problems might stem more from personnel than from coaching.

As the Chiefs approach the offseason, Kelce’s remarks emphasize what could be their main priority: bolstering their offensive line to more effectively shield their franchise quarterback from top-tier defensive lines like the one faced in New Orleans.

For Eagles supporters, the win signified a delightful turnaround from their last Super Bowl confrontation with the Chiefs, whereas for Kansas City, it serves as a distinct challenge to tackle as they prepare for the 2025 season.
