NEWS: Ioan Cunningham, the former head coach of Wales Women, will lead the Fiji Women’s team at this year’s World Cup.

Cunningham is an exceptionally skilled coach with extensive experience in international women’s rugby.

The Fijiana XV, currently ranked 16th globally, are grouped with Wales for the tournament scheduled for August in England, alongside Scotland and Canada.

The 42-year-old stepped down as head coach of Wales Women in November following a challenging year both on and off the field.

“Ioan is a skilled coach who has worked in women’s sports for many years.” “He coached in the northern hemisphere, guided the Welsh team to third in the Six Nations, and reached sixth in the world,” stated Alana Thomas, Fiji Rugby Women’s High-Performance Manager.

Fiji Rugby Chief Executive Rovereto Nayacalevu conveyed optimism regarding Cunningham’s appointment.

“We are thrilled to have Ioan join the Fiji Rugby vuvale.” His knowledge and experience on the global stage position him as the perfect leader as we get ready for the Rugby World Cup.

Coach Cunningham expressed, “I am really looking forward to collaborating with this team of athletes and staff.” The capabilities of this group are tremendous, and I feel thrilled and privileged to have the chance to collaborate with the team and represent Fiji. “This year is crucial for women’s rugby, and I’m eager to tap into the talent within this team.”
