The Detroit Lions have emerged as possible trade partners for two star edge rushers, Myles Garrett and Maxx Crosby, yet one insider thinks it will be a different defensive star that joins Detroit this offseason.
Gary Davenport from Bleacher Report analyzed several possible offseason trades, one of which would trade Los Angeles Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa to the Lions for a relatively low cost.
Lions Seize Opportunity with Frequently Injured Player
Davenport proposed that the Lions might take a risk on Bosa, who has endured multiple injuries in recent years and has played over 10 games only once in the last three seasons. He thinks the Chargers might be prepared to move forward, looking for some form of compensation rather than receiving nothing if they let Bosa go.
“There’s a reason the 2016 No. 3 overall selection is seen as a potential trade or cut option this offseason—particularly if the Chargers aim to re-sign fellow edge-rusher Khalil Mack,” wrote Davenport.
“The Detroit Lions have been cited as a possible trade candidate for various edge-rushers, featuring notable players like Maxx Crosby and Myles Garrett.”
Davenport proposed that the Lions might acquire Bosa with a fourth-round pick in 2025, providing additional support and depth alongside star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson.
Bosa succeeded in earning an invitation to the Pro Bowl in 2024 by playing in 14 games and recording 5.0 sacks alongside 22 total tackles. Despite being the focus of speculation this offseason, Davenport mentioned that the Chargers seem intent on retaining him on their roster in 2025.
Chargers GM Joe Hortiz informed reporters that Bosa is content in Los Angeles and desires to finish his career there — a wish the Chargers aim to fulfill.
“I understand he aims to retire as a Charger,” he stated. “I would really like him to end his career as a Charger.” I adore Joey—the colleague, the rival.”
However, Davenport noted that offseason commitments frequently hold little significance, and the Chargers might still be open to trading Bosa if the offer is appropriate.
“Now that we have a top-tier rusher, should we bring in another?” “Absolutely, we want to have three or four elite rushers,” Holmes stated, according to SI.com. “That’s simply not always the case regarding what you can accomplish.” Therefore, it’s certainly not overlooked. I want to discuss all the talks I have during the year when we’re interacting, what you require or what we need to enhance our team. I can’t recall a moment when a pass-rusher has ever been excluded. “It will not be overlooked.”
