The Kansas City Chiefs found themselves in a state of uncertainty after losing the Super Bowl. They were prone to error, significantly so. The pursuit of three consecutive championships has ended. The remainder of the AFC will have another chance to close the gap on Kansas City, and in the three weeks following the Super Bowl, there’s been uncertainty regarding Travis Kelce’s return in 2025.

On Thursday, Kelce reached his conclusion. As revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the tight end heading to Canton plans to return in 2025, aiming to atone for the mistakes made in Super Bowl 59.

As news circulated and supporters took to social media with their enthusiasm, they discovered their quarterback rejoicing alongside them.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes responded to Kelce’s retirement choice by paying tribute to Michael Jordan. He retweeted the post with a gif of Jordan’s security guard performing the legendary shrug.

On Thursday, Kelce reached his conclusion. As revealed on “The Pat McAfee Show,” the tight end heading to Canton plans to return in 2025, aiming to atone for the mistakes of Super Bowl 59.

Maybe Kelce was never intending to retire after a Super Bowl defeat, but the tight end’s performance was indeed decreasing. He was aimed at 133 times for 97 catches, 823 yards, and three touchdowns. In terms of yards and touchdowns, it marked the worst season of his career (since playing in a single game as a rookie).

Even more alarming was his yards after the catch per reception, which, at 3.9 yards, represented the lowest figure of his career, indicating that his prime days are not returning. Offering fewer big plays compared to earlier seasons, he has transformed into the game’s most reliable safety net, rather than the leading elite tight end.

This doesn’t imply that Kelce is “finished” at all. Tight ends don’t simply achieve 130 catches for enjoyment, and he ranks within the top tier of tight ends in the current game.

In addition, his connection with Mahomes is unparalleled. There’s no destination Mahomes prefers for the football, particularly on key plays, and retaining Kelce ensures there’s one less significant gap to address in the months ahead

No one would fault Kelce for stepping away with his health, a legacy, and a comfortable situation after playing. However, for at least one additional season, Kelce will remain in Kansas City, providing the Chiefs with something to cheer about.
