Four Big 12 Records Shattered as Texas Tech and BYU Dominate Day One of Big 12 ITF Championship

LUBBOCK, Texas – The 2025 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championship kicked off with a thrilling first day, where four conference records were broken. Texas Tech’s men and BYU’s women surged ahead in the team standings.

With five men’s events completed, Texas Tech led the pack with 33 points. BYU followed closely with 29, while Kansas and Oklahoma State shared third place with 28 points each. Arizona rounded out the top five with 20.5 points.

On the women’s side, BYU topped the standings with 36 points. Baylor trailed in second with 30 points, while Oklahoma State and West Virginia tied for third at 22 points. Cincinnati and Kansas both posted 19 points, securing a shared fifth-place position after six events.

BYU swept the 5,000-meter races. Lexy Halladay-Lowry clinched the women’s title with a time of 15:32.52, and Casey Clinger set a new meet record of 13:29.61 in the men’s event, surpassing a 12-year-old mark of 13:41.01.

Oklahoma State took home two titles. Their distance medley relay team claimed its fifth straight victory with the Championship’s second-best time of 9:30.88. Additionally, Blair Anderson secured the school’s first Big 12 long jump title, leaping 7.62 meters.

West Virginia successfully defended its distance medley relay crown. Ceili McCabe anchored the team to a meet record of 11:09.42, narrowly surpassing Oklahoma State’s 2011 time of 11:09.67.

Cincinnati’s Juliette Laracuente-Huebner delivered 10 points for the Bearcats by winning the women’s pentathlon with a total of 4,182 points.

Baylor’s women shined in two field events. Molly Haywood triumphed in a jump-off battle in the pole vault, clearing a meet-best 4.56 meters, marking the second consecutive Baylor victory in the event. Alexis Brown, the 2024 Big 12 outdoor long jump champion, added another conference title with a 6.71-meter leap, becoming the first Baylor athlete to win both indoor and outdoor long jump titles.

Texas Tech’s Shelby Frank dominated the women’s weight throw, securing gold with her second attempt of 23.32 meters, which also set a meet record. In the men’s weight throw, Kansas State’s Gary Moore Jr. earned his first Big 12 title with a throw of 22.67 meters.

The evening concluded with an intense showdown in the men’s pole vault, where Kansas’ Clayton Simms defended his title by clearing 5.61 meters on his third attempt.
