The 2024 college football season signified a comeback for several of the sport’s most prestigious programs. One such program was the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Once regarded as one of the top teams in college football, the Cornhuskers have recently gone through a tough period. As the 2024 season approaches, they have experienced seven straight losing seasons and eight losing seasons in total out of the last ten.

Nonetheless, 2024 marked a shift for Nebraska as they concluded the season with a 7-6 record and secured their first bowl game victory since 2015. On ESPN’s “Always College Football,” Greg McElroy shared his positive outlook for the Cornhuskers’ future in Lincoln as they prepare for the 2025 season.

“McElroy mentioned that another team he believes could transition from being dangerous to a contender this year is the Nebraska Cornhuskers.” “They bring back many players on offense, including their quarterback, Dylan Raiola.” Dana Holgerson will be in charge of the offense. He’ll be in great condition. I really appreciate the additions they made at wide receiver through the transfer portal. That could be what makes me feel the most hopeful about the potential of this group.

McElroy described the 2024 wide receiver group as “mediocre at best.” Nonetheless, he currently has faith in Dane Key, a transfer from Kentucky whom he regards as a “true No. 1” wide receiver. In the previous season, Key achieved 715 yards and two touchdown scores. The Cornhuskers have also signed Nyziah Hunter, who recorded 578 yards and five touchdowns in his final season at Cal.

Furthermore, McElroy recognizes significant potential in sophomore quarterback Dylan Raiola. During his first year, Raiola passed for 2,819 yards, 13 TDs, and 11 picks, with a completion rate of 67.1%. Though McElroy recognizes that Raiola needs to improve certain basic elements of his game, he feels that his performance has numerous favorable points.

McElroy indicates that Nebraska’s expected win count for 2025 is 7.5, and he is inclined to bet on the over.
