If you believed LeBron James’ legacy couldn’t expand further, reconsider.
The Lakers’ star forward continues to shatter records, and he accomplished this on Tuesday in front of the home fans against the struggling New Orleans Pelicans.
James is the first player in NBA history to reach 50,000 points.
His cumulative total of over 50,000 points includes both the regular season and playoffs.
Two years ago, James set the record as the all-time leading scorer in the NBA by surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-standing scoring record that lasted for 39 years.
In the postseason, James surpassed Michael Jordan’s all-time playoff scoring record on May 25, 2017, a mark that had remained for 19 years.
James is nearing 42,000 points in the regular season and has surpassed 8,000 points in the playoffs. With plenty of time remaining in the regular season and the playoffs appearing probable for the Lakers, he is far from finished ascending this mountain.
The Lakers star is arguably showcasing some of the finest basketball of his career. James’ score in February represents his highest monthly average since January 2022 (33.8 ppg) and his best shooting percentages since March 2024 (57.1 percent for field goals and 45.5 percent for three-pointers).
In February, he achieved the distinction of being the first player in league history to record multiple games scoring over 40 points at the age of 40 or older. Michael Jordan is the only other 40-year-old to have a game with 40+ points, achieving a remarkable 43-point feat on February 21, 2003.
In addition to that, James won the award for Player of the Month in the Western Conference.
During 12 matches in February, he recorded an average of 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 6.9 assists, shooting 55.5 percent overall and 44.3 percent from beyond the arc.
James has been outstanding this season, averaging 24.8 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, 8.6 assists, and 0.9 steals, while achieving a shooting percentage of 51.8 from the field and 39.1 from three-point range.
James is in the 22nd season of his career, and still he discovers fresh methods to enhance his game. The previous No. 1 selection in the 2003 NBA Draft has accomplished it all.
He is a four-time NBA champion, four-time NBA MVP, a 20-time All-NBA selection, and a member of the 7th Anniversary Team.
