Officials also revealed the arrests of Jordan Willis, a friend of the trio, and Ivory Carson on accusations of involuntary manslaughter and drug trafficking.
The reasons for the deaths have been disclosed for three Kansas City Chiefs supporters discovered deceased in their friend’s backyard in January 2024.
A forensic examination revealed that David Harrington, 37, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and Ricky Johnson, 38, “all perished from a mixture of Fentanyl and cocaine toxicity,” stated Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd at a press conference.
Officials also revealed the capture of two individuals linked to the case on Wednesday, March 5.
The group of men went to their friend Jordan Willis’ rental house in Kansas City, Mo., to see the Chiefs compete against the Los Angeles Chargers on January 7, 2024. Two days later, the three were discovered deceased in the backyard. During the inquiry, law enforcement consistently stated that “no foul play” had been “noticed or believed.”
Initial toxicology reports allegedly showed that the men had cocaine and fentanyl in their systems, according to WDAF and TMZ, which referenced sources in February 2024. Nonetheless, authorities emphasized that the situation continued to be an “active death inquiry.”
This week, Zahnd stated that during their search of the residence following the incident, authorities discovered two plastic bags filled with “white powdery substances.” Following police testing, one of the bags tested positive for cocaine.
Willis is currently one of two individuals charged with providing the drugs that resulted in the deaths of the three. Willis and Ivory Carson faced charges of “distribution of a controlled substance and three counts of involuntary manslaughter,” according to Zahnd. According to the Associated Press, both are detained on a $100,000 cash bond. Every offense can result in a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
“The probable cause statement claims that Mr. Willis has been identified as the primary source of the DNA discovered on that bag,” Zahnd stated. “The other bag held fentanyl, and the probable cause statement claims that Mr. Carson was identified as the primary source of DNA on that bag.
Willis’ lawyer, John Picerno, earlier refuted his client’s participation in the matter, informing PEOPLE in January 2024 that Willis was “unaware of how his friends had perished,” and he was “eagerly anticipating the findings of the autopsy and toxicology report.”
Following the announcement of the arrests, Picerno informed KCTV, “Jordan asserts that he is not accountable for acquiring or providing the drugs that resulted in the deaths of his three friends.” We eagerly anticipate the day when a jury will hear all the evidence in this case.
