family or household member by obstructing their breathing or circulation. As of early Saturday, he was still held in a Williamson County, TX jail without bond.
Soon after his arrest, Worthy’s lawyers issued a statement on his behalf, which was provided to Pro Football Talk. In it, they assert that the incident arises from a personal conflict regarding his partner’s supposed unfaithfulness.
Worthy’s legal team refutes accusations.
“We acknowledge the claim that resulted in Mr. Worthy’s arrest,” the statement says. “We are collaborating with law enforcement in Williamson County to make sure they understand the complete context surrounding this allegation.”
His legal team states that Worthy had consistently requested his partner to vacate his home upon learning of her supposed unfaithfulness, which they assert is backed by video proof. The claim also states that the complainant did not depart, exhibited extortive conduct, and caused damage to the property within the home. They further assert that she assaulted Worthy, clawing his face and tugging his hair, backed by photographic proof of their allegations.
In spite of these accusations, Worthy allegedly informed law enforcement on-site that he did not want to file charges against the complainant. His lawyers highlighted their belief that a thorough investigation will exonerate him.
What’s next for Worthy?
If convicted of the charge, impeding the breathing or circulation of a family member, Worthy could face a prison sentence of two to ten years, along with a fine of up to $10,000.
