Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has been taken into custody on allegations of domestic violence.
According to online records from Williams County, Texas, Worthy was arrested on Friday, March 7, and was charged with assault against a family or household member by obstructing their breathing or circulation. The identity of the family or household member has not been disclosed to the public yet.
TMZ has stated that Worthy is incarcerated without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday, March 8.
“The Chiefs organization stated on Saturday, March 7, according to USA Today, that they are informed and collecting details.” Worthy has not made any public statements regarding the arrest or the charges.
Worthy was chosen as the 28th pick by the Chiefs in the 2024 NFL Draft following his record-breaking 40-yard dash in 4.21 seconds at the NFL combine that spring. Following his draft, Worthy’s future wife, Tia Jones, rejoiced in his career achievement.
“Greetings from the chiefs kingdom ❤️. #chiefs #nfldraft #worthy,” Jones wrote alongside a collection of Instagram pictures featuring Worthy back then.
Worthy and Jones revealed their engagement in July 2024. Worthy proposed to Jones on the beach, kneeling before a red floral arch adorned with a “Marry Me” sign in the background.
Two months later, Worthy played in his regular season debut and scored two touchdowns. “Initial match, initial touchdown, initial victory.” Honored to be a Chief. “Go Chiefs Kingdom!” he exclaimed in a Chiefs video on X, while Jones excitedly posted on X, “Zay’s first genuine NFL touchdown 🏈 First TD of the game! Remaining with 2 touchdowns. Had 68 yards from just 3 touches 🤯.”
While the couple gets ready for their wedding, Jones shared the story of how their relationship started in a November 2024 episode of “The Pregame Podcast With Tokyo and Sydnee.” Jones mentioned that Worthy had contacted her earlier, but she “didn’t reply.”
“Because, you see, it’s Instagram.” “Swipe in, swipe out,” she commented, mentioning that circumstances shifted when she relocated to Texas, where he resided. “Time passed, and I relocated to Texas to train with my coach.” At that time, he was attending UT [University of Texas], and we encountered each other at a restaurant. I spotted him at a dining place.
While Jones was running “so late” to a friend’s dinner at a steakhouse, two vehicles accelerated, “cutting in front of” her — one of which turned out to be Worthy. Jones and Worthy reached the restaurant’s valet section on time, originally intending to inform the driver, “you must reduce your speed.” Nevertheless, she spotted Worthy and identified him.
“[He gave me a look that said], ‘I’ve been searching for you,'” Jones remembered, mentioning that Worthy was “truly a gentleman” and invited her out on a date. “That’s the reason God delayed my arrival to that dinner.” “Because I encountered my partner.”
