The Detroit Lions have reached a conclusion regarding veteran offensive lineman Dan Skipper.
As per several reports, the 30-year-old is heading back to Motown after finalizing a one-year contract extension.
During the previous season, Skipper participated in 17 games, with five of those being starts, and he logged 323 offensive snaps. He achieved a PFF offensive rating of 55.2, placing him 71st. His grade for pass blocking was 57.6 while run blocking was rated at 49.5.
Following a strong training camp, the Lions coaching staff placed their confidence in the well-liked lineman for the backup offensive tackle position.
“He deserved that position,” remarked head coach Dan Campbell. “This year at camp, I felt he performed at his best, playing better than ever since joining the league and since I’ve known him.” That’s a testament to him. He didn’t simply stroll in through the door. I mean, he’s had to fight and he’s played for various teams.
Throughout the past two seasons, Skipper has risen to be one of the most favored players on the team.
In 2023, officials mistakenly flagged a penalty on the Lions versus the Cowboys for illegal touching. Taylor Decker appeared on video as eligible, but Skipper was declared to the audience as being eligible.
Whenever the public address announcer declares No. 70 as eligible, the home crowd at Ford Field bursts into cheers.
Another aspect of Skipper’s charm is his toughness and readiness to face challenges. His place on the roster has been uncertain previously, but he is now a dependable role player on Dan Campbell’s team.
“Every team requires an individual who will challenge the norm slightly, striving to maximize each person’s potential,” Skipper stated. “In the initial years, I believe a portion of my role was to bring some intensity.”
