On Tuesday, the NFL revealed the compensatory picks for the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Detroit Lions will receive one, increasing their total selections to seven.
The compensatory selection results from the Lions losing their former defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn to the New York Jets, who appointed him as their head coach.
Detroit is gaining from an NFL rule enacted in 2020 that provides two third-round compensatory picks to teams that lose a minority executive to a general manager position and/or an assistant coach to a head-coaching role. The Lions will also receive a compensatory pick due to Glenn’s exit in 2026.
In addition to the announcement of the compensatory selections, the NFL also disclosed the official order for the 2025 NFL Draft. Here’s an overview of the current status of the Lions’ selections for this year.
Lions’ selections for the 2025 NFL Draft
Round One, Selection 28
Round two, selection 60
Round 3, Selection 102 (comp selection)
Round 4, Selection 130
Round 6, Selection 196 (acquired from Buccaneers)
Round 7, Selection 228 (acquired from Cowboys)
Round 7, Selection 244
The Lions lacked a third-round pick before receiving the compensatory selection because of the trade up for offensive lineman Giovanni Manu with the Jets in last year’s draft.
The sixth-round selection originates from the 2024 Carlton Davis deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the seventh-round pick from the Dallas Cowboys comes from the team’s trade to move up for cornerback Terrion Arnold in the first round of last year’s draft.
The NFL Draft in 2025 is set to occur in Green Bay, Wisconsin, from April 24 to April 26. The Lions will initially pick at No. 28 overall.
