Cornerback Kindle Vildor has left the Detroit Lions to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Reports indicate that the 27-year-old experienced defensive back is agreeing to a one-year free agent deal with the NFC South team.
Supporters of the Lions will not or likely never erase from memory a regrettable play that proved to be quite expensive in the NFC Championship matchup against the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
A ball somehow managed to bounce off his face mask and was then caught by wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk for a significant 51-yard gain.
“I’ve certainly seen it,” Vildor remarked while discussing the play with the free press. “I’ve definitely seen it. We’re reviewing film this week, but we haven’t looked at that play. I haven’t seen it this week. I understand what occurred; it still amazes me. But hey, we’ve moved on now.”
He stated that it remains quite challenging to revisit and re-watch the whole game, yet he has viewed replays of the mistake. In 2024, the 27-year-old made 16 tackles in Aaron Glenn’s defensive scheme. He had 22 starts with the Bears from 2020 to 2022.
The Georgia Southern alumnus is expected to enhance cornerback depth and aid Todd Bowles’ team on special teams.
Although facing criticism for relinquishing the explosive play, Vildor experienced productive moments throughout his time in Motown.
Reports suggest that Vildor’s contract with the Buccaneers is a “veteran salary benefit” deal, lasting one season at the minimum veteran salary of $1.17 million.
