Raiders Interested in Super Bowl MVP WR as Potential Davante Adams Replacement.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been quite active this offseason under first-year general manager John Spytek. While free agency has been somewhat quiet for the team, the new leadership made a significant trade for quarterback Geno Smith and re-signed or extended several key players in the weeks leading up to the legal tampering period.
Despite an impressive rookie campaign from tight end Brock Bowers and a standout season from wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, the Raiders are still searching for a true No. 1 wide receiver this offseason. On Wednesday, The Athletic’s Tashan Reed reported that the team is showing interest in veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp to fill that role.
Kupp was released by the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday at the start of the league year after spending all eight years of his career with the team. In 2021, he had a historic season, leading the NFL in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns, and capped it off by winning the Super Bowl MVP Trophy.
Although his production has declined in recent years due to injuries, Kupp still has much to offer an NFL offense. The Rams recently signed Davante Adams to pair with Puka Nacua, leaving Kupp as the odd man out in Los Angeles.
Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly could certainly take advantage of Kupp’s skills in his offense, and depending on the cost, this could be a wise move for the team. There are other strong options in the draft, as well as other veteran receivers like Stefon Diggs, but Kupp may be the top wide receiver available, making it a smart move for Las Vegas to consider.
