The Detroit Lions MUST Add One of These Guards Immediately

With Kevin Zeitler now with the Titans, the Detroit Lions have a significant hole at offensive guard. While Graham Glasgow and Christian Mahogany are currently projected as starters, neither inspires full confidence for a team with serious Super Bowl hopes. Detroit needs to move fast and secure a proven veteran to solidify the offensive line. These two players should be their top targets:

Brandon Scherff

A former first-round pick in 2015, Brandon Scherff has been a key piece of the Jaguars’ offensive line for the past three seasons and would bring immediate reliability. If Scherff wants a real chance at winning a ring, Detroit should be the perfect landing spot. At roughly $6 million per year, this signing would be an easy decision for GM Brad Holmes.

Will Hernandez

Though Hernandez missed most of 2024 with a knee injury suffered in Week 5, Brad Holmes has a history of betting on players undervalued due to injuries. Originally a left guard, Hernandez has since transitioned well to the right side. If his medicals check out, taking a chance on him could pay off.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not comfortable heading into 2025 with Glasgow and Mahogany as the starting guards. Glasgow’s play has declined, and Mahogany remains an unknown at the pro level. I’d love to see the Lions bring in Scherff or Hernandez as a starter, then let Glasgow and Mahogany battle for the other spot.
