The Detroit Lions have been active this offseason, but they still need to strengthen their edge rush opposite Aidan Hutchinson. Some expect the Lions to re-sign Za’Darius Smith, while others believe they will draft an EDGE rusher in 2025. Personally, I think they will do both. But could Detroit execute a trade to boost its pass rush? That’s what a Bleacher Report writer recently proposed.
Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report suggested that Detroit should consider trading for Eagles pass rusher Bryce Huff. Huff’s first year in Philadelphia was underwhelming—he missed five games and recorded only 2.5 sacks—but he has shown flashes of being a disruptive force.
Moton’s trade proposal? The Lions would send a 2025 fourth-round pick and a seventh-rounder to Philadelphia in exchange for Huff. It’s a low-risk, high-reward move that could enhance Detroit’s defensive line.
As Moton highlighted, Detroit’s pass-rushing options outside of Hutchinson are uncertain. Za’Darius Smith remains unsigned, and although Marcus Davenport was re-signed, he has struggled with injuries since arriving in Detroit.
Acquiring Huff would provide the Lions with another weapon to pressure quarterbacks. He is young, has potential, and might flourish in a fresh environment with a strong defensive front.
The Lions are close to contention, but to make a deep playoff run, they must disrupt opposing quarterbacks. Trading for Huff could be the underrated move that helps push them over the top.
