One of the people most responsible for the decision to part ways with Rodgers is new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn. The former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator knew the former Green Bay Packers quarterback well from their days matched up against each other in the NFC North, but felt that it was best for the team for a change.

He is also familiar with his new quarterback, Fields, and he is excited to have him as his starter going forward.

Glenn told Judy Battista of NFL Network, “He [Fields] has a quiet confidence about himself. He can really throw the deep ball really, really well. Obviously, his legs are something that’s dynamic not just in college but the NFL as well. I just think he’s ready to break out as a top-notch quarterback. So, he’s going to do everything he can to be one of the better ones and we are going to coach our a–es off to make sure he does a good job out there.”

He also added, “I envision him playing quarterback. Whatever that may be, that’s how we are going to utilize him.”

Last season, Fields completed 65.8% of his passes for 1,106 passing yards, five touchdowns, an interception, and a passer rating of 110.6 in six games with Pittsburgh. He also added 259 rushing yards and five more touchdowns on the ground.

A dynamic runner, Fields is a glaring contrast to the older and less mobile Rodgers, who oftentimes could not escape pressure from the defense last season.

While the Jets are certainly rebuilding right now, they should look like a younger, faster, and more fun team in 2025 than they have over the last two seasons.
