Goff has progressed significantly from being the quarterback Sean McVay was eager to move on from. Even his first season and a half in Detroit raised doubts about his long-term viability as a starter.
Now entering his fifth season as the Lions’ quarterback, new questions arise. Can Goff lead Detroit to a Super Bowl? How will he fare without Ben Johnson complete complete complete I am completely?
What isn’t in doubt is the trust GM Brad Holmes and Campbell have in him. Holmes reaffirmed that belief while speaking with Mike Florio on PFT Live at the owners’ meetings in Florida.
“I always had more optimism than the outside world because I knew him so well,” Holmes said. “From his draft process to his early success, I was there. After we lost that Super Bowl, people were quick to dismiss him. But he was still young with plenty of room to grow, so I believed in his development. You never know exactly how far it will go, but I’m thrilled for him because he has put in the work.”
New offensive coordinator John Morton has said the offense will be “predicated” on Goff.
