Georgia men’s basketball center Somto Cyril to enter transfer portal

Sophomore center Somto Cyril plans to enter the transfer portal, announcing his decision through an Instagram post Tuesday, marking another key departure for Georgia as roster movement begins ahead of the offseason.

Cyril, who was named to the 2026 SEC All-Defensive Team, is the third Bulldog expected to enter the portal, joining leading scorer Jeremiah Wilkinson and forward Dylan James. The portal is set to open April 7.

A consensus four-star prospect in the 2024 class, the 6-foot-11 Cyril arrived in Athens with high expectations after playing for Overtime Elite in Atlanta, a league full of top young prospects carrying a plethora of college basketball offers. He initially committed to Kentucky in June 2023 before former head coach John Calipari left for the Arkansas head coaching job. Cyril ultimately decommitted from the Wildcats, choosing Georgia and head coach Mike White on April 30, 2024.
