(Photo by Patrick Smith/Getty Images) The Detroit Lions opened their 2024 NFL season with a 26-20 overtime victory at home over the Los Angeles Rams in a rematch of last year’s Divisional Round game. Detroit now turns its focus to Week 2 for a matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, another team it defeated in the playoffs last year, and the Lions have made a few transactions ahead of the game. The Lions announced on X that they havend defensive lineman Chris Smith to the practice squad. Peko is a 31-year-old journeyman and had one tackle against the Rams. He played a career-high 13 games for the Tennessee Titans last season when he collected 22 tackles as a rotational defensive lineman. Joseph played all 17 games for the Minnesota Vikings in each of the past three seasons. For the Lions in the opener, rookie kicker Jake Bates went 2-for-2 on field goals and made both of his extra points in his NFL debut as an undrafted free agent out of Arkansas. Joseph has made 82.6 percent of his field goal attempts in his career but was shaky beyond 40 yards for the Vikings last season, making just seven of 13 attempts from 40 or longer. Smith, an undrafted free agent last season out of Notre Dame, had one tackle against the Rams. He was waived earlier in the week.
