The Detroit Lions experienced a fright during the first half of their only playoff match against the Washington Commanders this postseason when quarterback Jared Goff exited the field and went towards the foreboding blue tent set up on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

When the Lions returned to offense, head coach Dan Campbell chose the recently un-retired Teddy Bridgewater over former third-round selection and Tennessee Volunteers standout Hendon Hooker.<\/p>\n

That choice from Campbell essentially conveys everything that needs to be stated regarding the young quarterback’s outlook with the team. On January 30, ESPN’s Bill Barnwell identified Hooker as Detroit’s leading candidate for release as the offseason approaches.<\/p>\n
Bridgewater is likely not a lasting answer for the Lions’ backup role, as he retired to coach a high school football team in early 2024 and only returned to active NFL status after it secured a Florida state championship.<\/p>\n

Bridgewater completed 1-of-1 passes for 3 yards against the Commanders in the divisional round and will celebrate his 33rd birthday next November.<\/p>\n
