A former Detroit Lions wide receiver, Maurice Alexander, who played four games in 2024, is joining Ben Johnson with the Chicago Bears.<\/p>\n
Maurice Alexander, the ex-Detroit Lions wide receiver, has signed a futures contract with the Chicago Bears, as reported by the NFL transaction wire.<\/p>\n
He will reunite with his former offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, who became the Bears’ head coach last week. Alexander will also reconnect with Antwaan Randle El, who moved to Chicago as the new wide receivers coach and assistant head coach.<\/p>\n
Alexander ended the season on the Lions\u2019 practice squad, and the team chose not to offer him a futures deal. This left Alexander as a free agent, able to sign with any team ahead of the free agency period in March.<\/p>\n
At 28, Alexander has had an on-and-off presence with the Lions since 2022. This past season, he appeared in three games and served as the team’s kick and punt returner when Kalif Raymond was sidelined with a foot injury. Alexander had four punt returns, totaling 42 yards, and a fumble (which was recovered).<\/p>\n
Known by the nickname \u201cHard Time,\u201d Alexander didn\u2019t get many chances on the field during his three years (seven games played) but gained a reputation as a hardworking and reliable teammate.<\/p>\n
He was part of the group that worked out with Teddy Bridgewater in and out of the Lions\u2019 training facility.<\/p>\n
“He\u2019s always there, just listening, catching jugs after practice. After the walkthrough, catching jugs, just listening,\u201d Raymond said of Alexander in 2022.<\/p>\n
“This guy’s grinding. He had another job, got a call from the USFL, excelled there, became a Detroit Lion, and finally returned a punt in the NFL. There’s so much work behind that moment\u2014work that no one saw. The guy works incredibly hard.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
