As the 2025 NFL offseason approaches, the Detroit Lions are expected to be linked to a number of high-profile players they could acquire.<\/p>\n
The team has significant cap space and is a strong contender following their 15-2 finish in 2024.<\/p>\n
They have already been mentioned as a potential destination for some of the top defensive players expected to hit the market this offseason, but now it seems they may also be targeting a former All-Pro on the offensive side.<\/p>\n
On the February 4 episode of Sportscaster, ESPN\u2019s Jeremy Fowler shared (via A to Z Sports’ Mike Payton) that a league executive informed him the Lions could be in the running for Los Angeles Rams receiver Cooper Kupp.<\/p>\n
The executive mentioned Detroit because of Kupp\u2019s connection with Jared Goff, as they entered the league together and made Pro Bowls together. The executive noted how this chemistry could create an exciting dynamic.<\/p>\n
Kupp recently disclosed that the Rams informed him they were looking to trade him this offseason.<\/p>\n
Personally, I struggle to see how Kupp would fit with the Lions.<\/p>\n
While the connection to Jared Goff makes sense, the team already has two 1000-yard receivers, including one of the best in the league.<\/p>\n
Additionally, they have Sam LaPorta, who has averaged 800 yards per season in his first two years in the NFL.<\/p>\n
Moreover, this is a team that will likely continue focusing on the run game with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs, backed by one of the league\u2019s top offensive lines.<\/p>\n
With so many established options in the offense, it’s hard to envision why acquiring Kupp would be a priority or how it would benefit the Lions.<\/p>\n
If it happens, the Lions would be acquiring a player who was once regarded as one of the top receivers in the NFL and who recorded 67 catches for 710 yards last season.<\/p>\n
