Certainly, you can’t dislike the \u201cChoose Love\u201d and \u201cIt Takes All Of Us\u201d slogans that will be displayed at the back of the end zones at the Caesars Superdome on Sunday \u2013 when over 200 million viewers are anticipated to tune in for at least part of the matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.<\/p>\n

However, it\u2019s a missed chance at a moment when \u201cEnd Racism\u201d is a message that undoubtedly should be voiced in our country \u2013 and, considering the worldwide audience the NFL aims to expand, should originate from our country.<\/p>\n

This is even more relevant when taking into account another piece of pregame information that emerged on Tuesday: President Donald Trump is arriving.<\/p>\n

Trump, who recklessly and maliciously accused DEI for the mid-air crash near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport last week that claimed the lives of 67 individuals while courageous first responders were still retrieving bodies from the Potomac River, will become the first sitting president to go to a Super Bowl.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
That’s an individual who should encounter “End Racism” messaging \u2013 even if just as a subconscious prompt of societal duty. However, clearly as something much more profound.<\/p>\n
The NFL’s Super 59 end zone slogans recognize a range of tragic national events this year \u2013 such as the medical jet crash in Philadelphia, the catastrophic wildfires in Los Angeles, the New Year\u2019s assault in the French Quarter, not far from the Superdome, and the crash near Washington, D.C., which involved an Army helicopter and a regional commercial jet.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Nonetheless, the NFL doesn’t need to dismiss the direct message recognizing racism in our society while also honoring the other tragedies. The \u201cEnd Racism\u201d slogan has been commonly featured in NFL end zone visuals since 2021, following a significant \u201cracial reckoning\u201d sparked by the tragic death of a Black man, George Floyd, which ignited protests and a surge of DEI initiatives in corporate America.<\/p>\n
With Trump returning to the White House, targeting DEI programs and principles while appointing loyalists with questionable backgrounds to important positions, the timing is particularly unfortunate for the NFL to eliminate its \u201cEnd Racism\u201d slogan.<\/p>\n

The NFL, despite its immense power, ought to uphold its slogan as a matter of principle. Make a daring declaration, regardless of \u201cwho dat\u201d is in the arena.<\/p>\n

Considering the anti-DEI measures and discourse coming from the White House, it\u2019s reasonable to assume that Goodell and others may feel somewhat anxious about the threat of an assault on the Rooney Rule, which is a vital part of broader DEI initiatives for the league.<\/p>\n
