There have been various proposals surrounding the Detroit Lions trading for Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, but some have clearly gone too far. On Monday, Mike Valenti of 97.1 The Ticket suggested trades that seemed extreme: offering three first-round picks and defensive back Brian Branch or a first-round pick, a third-round pick, and tight end Sam LaPorta.<\/p>\n
When considering players the Lions could move for Garrett, it’s clear that core players like Branch, LaPorta, and others won\u2019t be part of any deal. If not willing to part with these key players means missing out on Garrett, then so be it.<\/p>\n
As the trade deadline neared this season, former New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum proposed a wild trade\u2014three first-round picks and running back Jahmyr Gibbs for Garrett, calling Gibbs \u201creplaceable,\u201d a statement many found ridiculous.<\/p>\n
Braylon Edwards, a former University of Michigan and NFL wide receiver, now works for Detroit’s Woodward Sports. On Tuesday’s show, he weighed in on the Garrett trade talks, stating that only three Lions players should be untouchable: Penei Sewell, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Gibbs. “Everyone else, including number 97, is on the table,” he said. “Myles Garrett is in his prime, while Aidan Hutchinson is still a question mark. I\u2019d choose Garrett over Hutchinson.”<\/p>\n
Edwards rejected the idea of trading Hutchinson and a pick, but it\u2019s worth noting that Hutchinson\u2019s recovery from a broken leg is progressing well. Questioning his return to form seems premature at this point.<\/p>\n
Though there will likely be more outlandish trade ideas for Garrett, Edwards’ suggestion that Hutchinson should be traded for him stands out as the worst proposal yet.<\/p>\n
