After Green Bay\u2019s season ended disappointingly in the Wild Card round, things had been pretty quiet around the team. Other than the occasional Davante Adams interview, there hasn\u2019t been much to grab attention. That all changed on Wednesday. During his media rounds in the afternoon, Packers running back Josh Jacobs stirred up some drama during an interview with a local radio show. When asked about the offense \u2013 and specifically the wide receiver group \u2013 for next season, his answer is likely to have him making a public apology soon. \u201cWe\u2019ve got a really young group of receivers that all have the potential to be really, really special,\u201d Jacobs said. \u201cBut I think, personally, we need a guy that\u2019s already proven to be a number one. One that we know is going to be a little more consistent.\u201d Oof! Not the best take \u2013 though it\u2019s tough to blame him for feeling that way \u2013 but surely no one on the Packers will take offense, right? It\u2019s more of a plea for Adams than a knock on anyone on the current roster, right? No? That\u2019s definitely not what happened? Ah. Less than 30 minutes later, Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks chimed in on Jacobs’ comments, exactly how you’d expect a wide receiver to. Well, we\u2019re all awake now. For a few days, the offseason was cruising along without much drama \u2013 aside from that strange three-day stretch when everyone wanted Matt LaFleur fired? \u2013 but now we\u2019ve got what we asked for. Two teammates tossing some half-hearted shade at each other through the media, signaling that the offseason has officially kicked into gear.<\/p>\n
The best part of all this is that everyone\u2019s kind of right. The Packers do need a proven #1 wide receiver, but I can\u2019t blame Wicks for being upset about Jacobs’ public remarks. Everyone\u2019s valid, and no one\u2019s really going to come out on top here. It\u2019s the ideal situation, if that ideal situation is unnecessary drama that will now drag on for a few more days than it needs to.
