The Detroit Lions quarterback and his wife spoke exclusively with PEOPLE on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the NFL Honors red carpet in New Orleans, where they announced they are expecting their first child together.<\/p>\n
After finishing his last game of the season in January, Goff told PEOPLE he\u2019s thrilled to be \u201caround all these great players\u201d and excited for the build-up to the Sunday, Feb. 9, 2025, Super Bowl, which will feature the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish we were still playing, but it’s nice to be here,\u201d Goff admitted. The Lions were eliminated from the playoffs during the divisional round after losing to the Washington Commanders on Jan. 17.<\/p>\n
Now in the off-season, Goff shared with PEOPLE that what he\u2019s most looking forward to is becoming a father. \u201cI\u2019m looking forward to becoming a dad,\u201d the NFL star, 30, said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just excited to enjoy this special time together and soak up every second,\u201d Harper, 31, added.<\/p>\n
The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model also revealed to PEOPLE that they are expecting a baby girl, who is due at the start of the summer.<\/p>\n
Goff expressed that he has \u201calways dreamt\u201d of fatherhood. Now that it\u2019s \u201creal,\u201d he said he\u2019s eager to experience it. \u201cI know it\u2019ll add a new perspective to life, and it\u2019ll be great.\u201d<\/p>\n
The soon-to-be dad also shared that he believes Harper will be the \u201cbest mom,\u201d adding, \u201cI can\u2019t wait to watch her be a mom.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harper agreed, saying, \u201cI know he\u2019s going to be the best, and it\u2019s going to be exciting to do this together as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple began dating in 2019 after meeting on the private, membership-based dating app, Raya.<\/p>\n
