Dallas Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison has been the target of death threats since trading franchise player Luka Don\u010di\u0107 to the Los Angeles Lakers.<\/p>\n
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that these disturbing events have prompted the Mavericks to increase security for their first home game since the significant trade. \u201cThis fanbase is heartbroken, and there have been some very troubling consequences of their anger,\u201d MacMahon shared on “NBA Today” on February 7. The Mavericks\u2019 first home game since the trade will be against the Houston Rockets on February 8. \u201cNico Harrison has received death threats, some containing racial slurs.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cSecurity will be significantly heightened, with protests planned outside the arena. Nico Harrison won\u2019t be in his usual seat; it\u2019s important to ensure his safety,\u201d MacMahon added.<\/p>\n
In what was considered one of the most shocking trades in NBA history, the Mavericks traded Don\u010di\u0107, a five-time All-Star, to the Lakers for 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is certainly an unfortunate part of the situation,\u201d MacMahon said. \u201cFans have every right to be upset about losing a generational talent, but some actions have gone too far.\u201d<\/p>\n

Harrison briefly addressed his surprising decision to trade Don\u010di\u0107, stating that he wouldn\u2019t speak ill of any player. \u201cI\u2019m not going to speak negatively about any players. That doesn\u2019t benefit anyone,\u201d Harrison explained during a Sunday press conference. \u201cI\u2019ll say there are people who fit the culture and people who contribute to it, and those are two different things. \u201cI understand disagreements, but the secrecy and hypocrisy around this situation hurt me deeply,\u201d Sa\u0161a remarked.<\/p>\n
Harrison revealed that Luka had not returned his calls after the trade. \u201cI suspect he doesn\u2019t want to speak to me,\u201d Harrison said.<\/p>\n
Sa\u0161a felt betrayed by the move. \u201cLuka didn\u2019t deserve this. He gave so much to this team, and now they\u2019re putting out rumors that he wants to apologize for something. It\u2019s unfair.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sa\u0161a also refuted claims that Luka\u2019s conditioning was an issue before the trade. \u201cThis wasn\u2019t a problem last year,\u201d he said. \u201cLuka played through injuries, with constant pressure from defenders.
