The NFL offseason is a time for teams to make key roster improvements, and the New York Jets have significant changes ahead. Glenn, who previously served as the Lions’ defensive coordinator, is now the Jets’ head coach and is focused on steering them toward a better season after their disappointing 5-12 finish in 2024.<\/p>\n
Now, reports indicate that Glenn and Jets general manager Darren Mougey have decided to part ways with Rodgers.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, February 9, Jay Glazer of Fox NFL Sunday shared on X that Rodgers and the Jets are going their separate ways.<\/p>\n
According to Glazer, Rodgers \u201cflew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future, only to be informed that the team was moving on from him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Glazer also stated that \u201cif this results in a post-June 1 designation, Rodgers would be eligible to sign with any team in the league by March 12, should he choose to continue playing.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further noted that Rodgers does not appear ready to retire, explaining, \u201cSince Aaron made the effort to travel back and discuss his future, all indications suggest he still wants to play. It just won\u2019t be with the Jets.\u201d<\/p>\n
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport also confirmed the reports, saying that both parties are headed \u201cin different directions, ultimately leading to a separation.\u201d<\/p>\n
In January, Glenn spoke to the media about Rodgers\u2019 situation, stating, \u201cHere\u2019s what I do know: Aaron Rodgers will be a topic of discussion. We have already exchanged texts, and as we continue evaluating the roster, we\u2019ll make decisions accordingly\u2014just as we will for other players on the team.\u201d<\/p>\n
While the news is unexpected, it isn\u2019t entirely shocking. In a February 9 article for the NFL, analyst Nick Shook noted that \u201cRodgers\u2019 future has been uncertain for months,\u201d adding that the quarterback has \u201cfrequently discussed various possibilities, including his desire to stay with the Jets if they were willing.\u201d<\/p>\n

it remains to be seen which teams might pursue Rodgers. Several franchises could benefit from an experienced quarterback, though securing a deal for him may not be straightforward.<\/p>\n
\u201cA few teams need quarterback help,\u201d Shook pointed out, but suggested that at this stage in his career, Rodgers is \u201cessentially an experienced bridge quarterback.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding his contract, Over the Cap reports that if the Jets move on before June 1, whether via trade or release, they would absorb $49 million in dead cap. However, designating a post-June 1 move would free up $9.5 million in cap space for New York.<\/p>\n
