There has been a lot of speculation about whether former Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford will return to the Los Angeles Rams next season. Stafford has expressed his desire to continue playing in the NFL in 2025, but it doesn\u2019t guarantee a deal with the Rams.<\/p>\n
NFL expert and sports commentator Colin Cowherd shared some insider information about the Rams\u2019 stance on Stafford\u2019s contract extension during his show on February 13. Cowherd discussed Stafford\u2019s future and the quarterback situation in the NFL, revealing that he had made some calls and sent texts to propose a few potential moves.<\/p>\n
His main suggestion was that Stafford could move to the New York Giants, while Aaron Rodgers could go to the Rams. However, the most revealing part of Cowherd\u2019s comments was about Stafford\u2019s return to the Rams.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that the Los Angeles front office was growing weary of the ongoing discussions surrounding Stafford and his wife Kelly. This includes her public criticisms of the Rams\u2019 management, particularly regarding the departure of Cooper Kupp.<\/p>\n
Cowherd said, \u201cThe Rams like Matt Stafford, but they\u2019re tiring of the constant quarterback talk and his wife speaking out publicly.\u201d He added, \u201cThey\u2019re not thrilled about Cooper Kupp going public with something they wanted to keep quiet.\u201d<\/p>\n
He further stated, \u201cThey\u2019re getting a bit tired of both Cooper Kupp and, to a lesser extent, Matt Stafford. They like him, but they don\u2019t want to restructure his deal or offer him a new contract.\u201d<\/p>\n
As for the possibility of Stafford moving to the Giants, Cowherd mentioned that the Giants\u2019 management, led by head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen, would need to make a move to stay employed beyond Thanksgiving. He believes the Giants will target Stafford.<\/p>\n
Regarding Kelly Stafford\u2019s comments, during the February 6 episode of her podcast \u201cThe Morning After,\u201d she discussed Cooper Kupp being informed that the Rams were planning to trade him. \u201cI wasn\u2019t planning on discussing this, but why not,\u201d she said. \u201cMy husband just wants to win. He\u2019s not trying to put a team in a bad spot. If you\u2019re catching my drift, you\u2019re catching my drift.\u201d<\/p>\n
She further fueled rumors of Stafford potentially being traded, stating that while she loves \u201cthe city of L.A.,\u201d she also enjoys \u201can adventure.\u201d<\/p>\n
At the end of last season, Stafford signed a short-term raise for 2024 with the Rams, but no firm contract was agreed upon after that.
