Riley\u2019s journey to Dallas marks his first NFL coaching position, but it also means reuniting with Cooper Beebe, a 2024 third-round pick who was developed under Riley’s guidance at Kansas State. Riley had a hand in moving Beebe to the offensive line and has been a key figure in his development.<\/p>\n
“When I first took the Kansas State job, Cooper was set to be a defensive lineman. His dad mentioned the offensive line in a joking way during my recruitment visit,” Riley shared about Beebe’s transition to the O-line. “He has attacked everything with relentless drive, and that\u2019s evident in his performance.”<\/p>\n
Beebe\u2019s development has been impressive; from struggling with his snaps in his first training camp to becoming a solid starter in his rookie year. He played 97% of the team\u2019s offensive snaps, allowed only four sacks in 629 pass blocks, and demonstrated exceptional consistency.<\/p>\n
Beebe\u2019s adaptability has been crucial, and Riley emphasizes his value, noting Beebe\u2019s success in multiple positions along the line. “His versatility gives us flexibility to field the best five players,” said Riley, highlighting Beebe’s experience as both a guard and tackle in college.<\/p>\n
Riley also has much to focus on beyond Beebe. One player he is particularly excited to work with is Tyler Guyton, who struggled in his first season with injuries and penalties. However, Riley believes in Guyton\u2019s potential, recognizing him as one of the most athletically gifted players on the roster.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of work to do, but he\u2019s got tremendous talent,” Riley explained. “The sky’s the limit for him, and I\u2019m eager to work with him.”<\/p>\n
Another major focus is two-time All-Pro Tyler Smith, who is already regarded as one of the NFL\u2019s top offensive linemen. Riley has been studying Smith\u2019s game closely and is impressed by his physicality, athleticism, and power. “He\u2019s dominant when he hits something, and with a few adjustments, he\u2019ll be even more exciting,” said Riley.<\/p>\n
Riley also reunites with running back Deuce Vaughn, a dynamic talent he coached at Kansas State. Though Vaughn is still finding his footing in Dallas, Riley sees great potential in him. “Deuce\u2019s preparation and study habits make him a special player,” Riley said. “He was able to impact the game quickly at Kansas State, and I believe he can do the same in Dallas.”<\/p>\n
Riley\u2019s plan for the offensive line is already taking shape, with the goal of hitting the ground running come spring. A critical part of the process will be ensuring the Cowboys’ roster is filled with the right players to execute Riley\u2019s vision.<\/p>\n
When asked about the qualities he looks for in players, Riley was clear. “Beyond the physical attributes, I focus on toughness, physicality, and work ethic,” he explained. “It\u2019s about how a player finishes, how close they are to the football when the play ends. That\u2019s controllable and a key indicator of value to the team.”<\/p>\n
In addition to his tactical approach, Riley\u2019s leadership and experience will play a significant role in developing the Cowboys\u2019 offensive line.
