The NFL confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday that Detroit Lions’ Jameson Williams will not face any discipline over carrying an unlicensed gun, and the matter is now closed.<\/p>\n
The Detroit Free Press reported that the league will take no action against Williams following an October incident when he was stopped by police with an unlicensed firearm.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love that kid because he\u2019s been through a lot,\u201d Lions head coach Dan Campbell told the Free Press. \u201cSome of it is his fault, and he knows that, and that\u2019s what I respect \u2014 it took him a while to buy into what we were doing. He can be stubborn, but that\u2019s also why you love him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Williams ran into legal trouble on October 8 when he and his brother were pulled over in the Detroit area shortly after midnight. Police found two handguns in the car, both registered, but Williams didn\u2019t have a concealed pistol license, which could have led to charges for carrying a concealed weapon.<\/p>\n
However, Williams was neither arrested nor charged. A police sergeant, who was a Lions fan, arrived at the scene, briefly handcuffed Williams, and then released him after consulting with a lieutenant over the phone.<\/p>\n
In his third NFL season, Williams had his best year yet. With 58 receptions, he set career highs with 1,001 yards and seven touchdowns. Drafted by the Lions as the No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft from Alabama, he\u2019s still gaining valuable experience in the league.<\/p>\n
