As Richard Silva of the Detroit News pointed out, the Minnesota Vikings went for it just 13 times on fourth down during the 2024 season, the fewest in the league. Three of those attempts came against the Lions in Week 18. This disruption to opponents’ usual strategies gives the Lions a significant advantage.<\/p>\n
Barry Sanders, the Lions’ Hall of Fame running back, appeared on the “Green Light” podcast with former NFL defensive end Chris Long and praised Campbell for being a pioneer in the push for more fourth-down aggressiveness in the NFL. “That\u2019s where it starts. You\u2019ve seen just how Coach Campbell has changed the game. The amount of chances he\u2019s willing to take, he\u2019s changed the game,” Sanders said.<\/p>\n
“Really, it just feeds on itself because now the players understand when they get in certain situations, it\u2019s not even a second thought. That does develop that culture and confidence. It certainly adds a great benefit to that offense because I\u2019m pretty sure over the last few years, the defenses are thinking, \u2018Will they go for it in this case?\u2019 And the Lions are saying, \u2018No, we\u2019re definitely going to go for it.\u2019”<\/p>\n
