The 2024 season gave Allen Robinson the chance to play for his hometown team. The veteran wide receiver could return to the Lions this offseason, but he is currently contemplating retirement.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, it\u2019s more about determining what my future in this game and league looks like,\u201d Robinson said about his mindset (via Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press). \u201cRight now, I\u2019m just taking time to assess what next year holds for me overall. That\u2019s where I\u2019m at with it. So, I\u2019m taking some time to make this decision with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Robinson started his career with a four-year stint in Jacksonville, where he earned a Pro Bowl selection, followed by four seasons with the Bears. While in Chicago, the former second-round pick surpassed 1,100 yards twice, but he hasn\u2019t been able to replicate that success since. He signed a three-year deal with the Rams but played just one season in Los Angeles before being traded to the Steelers in 2023.<\/p>\n
After being released last offseason, the Penn State alum was on the move again. He signed with the Giants but failed to make the roster, leading him to join the Lions just before the regular season began. Overall, he played in 12 games but recorded only three receptions while seeing action on just 11% of the team\u2019s offensive snaps.<\/p>\n
Birkett reports that the Lions are open to bringing Robinson back, but he must first decide if he wants to continue playing. Detroit\u2019s wide receiver depth chart for 2025 includes Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Kalif Raymond. Tim Patrick\u2014who provided solid contributions this past season\u2014is set to become a free agent but could return on a new contract. If he stays, Robinson\u2019s role would likely remain limited even if he re-signs with Detroit.<\/p>\n
Robinson (who has stated he plans to transition into a media career after retirement) has played in 142 combined regular and postseason games. His career earnings currently total just over $95 million.<\/p>\n
