Sophomore Clara Strack from Kentucky has earned recognition as one of the nation\u2019s premier defenders by being awarded the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Strack, who is also a finalist for the Lisa Leslie Center of the Year, earned spots on the SEC All-Defensive Team and the All-SEC Second Team, reflecting an outstanding season filled with significant individual and team accomplishments.<\/p>\n
The standout center has been a dominant presence at both ends of the court, breaking records while leading her team to a successful season.<\/p>\n
“I definitely didn’t expect this, but it’s really exciting,” Strack shared. “Playing under a coach like Coach Brooks allows you to grow a lot. If you’re working hard with him, you\u2019ll see big improvements. I’ve really enjoyed it.”<\/p>\n
A Record-Breaking Defensive Presence<\/p>\n
Strack has been a game-changer for the Wildcats, topping the SEC with an average of 2.5 blocks per game, which also ranks her ninth nationally. She broke Kentucky\u2019s single-season blocks record with 70, surpassing the previous record held by Dunlap. Moreover, Strack set a new school record with eight blocks in a single game against Ole Miss on February 10.<\/p>\n
Her defensive abilities were on full display during a crucial victory over Tennessee, where she set two school records by making a perfect 11-for-11 from the field, the best single-game field goal percentage in program history. Strack\u2019s all-around dominance is rare; she is the only Division I women\u2019s player this season to achieve at least 25 points, 15 rebounds, eight assists, eight blocks, five steals, and three three-pointers in a single game.<\/p>\n

Though her defense has received well-deserved praise, Strack has also been a significant offensive contributor. She averages 15.3 points, 9.5 rebounds (ranking fourth in the SEC), and 2.7 assists per game, shooting efficiently from the floor. Her versatility is evident, as she has hit 15 three-pointers this season, including a career-high 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in a road win over No. 13 Oklahoma.<\/p>\n
