The Celtics’ star big man provided a concerning update regarding his health earlier this week, stating in a social media post that he was battling a viral illness that doctors hadn\u2019t completely identified by Monday. When he came back to the court five days later, Porzingis shared additional information about his illness after Saturday\u2019s victory.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a type of upper respiratory issue that escalated into something more serious,\u201d Porzingis informed the media. “I believe Bronchitis is the term.” Something similar to that, in that vein. However, I don’t think I’ve ever been that ill before in my life. I spent about a week just lying at home, attempting to recover. Following that, I continued to experience persistent exhaustion. “I still possess it to some extent.”<\/p>\n
Porzingis was optimistic about rejoining the Celtics\u2019 lineup earlier than he actually did. He had earlier hinted on social media about playing in the Celtics’ match against the Lakers on March 8, but ultimately he did not participate that day.<\/p>\n

Porzingis stated on Saturday that he aimed to come back for the game against the Celtics\u2019 main rival, mentioning that he exerted himself physically the day prior to that matchup. He clarified that the next day, \u201cthe crash I experienced was, in a way, unprecedented.\u201d<\/p>\n

“The following day, I was unable to rise from bed to participate in shootaround,” Porzingis stated. “I was simply very exhausted.” I thought to myself, “I won\u2019t be of any assistance out there.”<\/p>\n
While advocating for an earlier comeback, Porzingis expressed that his condition was \u201cincredibly, incredibly frustrating.\u201d Fortunately for him and the Celtics, his situation improved in the last few days.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m starting to get into somewhat better shape for playing,\u201d Porzingis stated. “Following every workout, I experienced a sudden, significant drop.” I was extremely, exceptionally tired. Not typical. It has required a bit more time. However, I\u2019m implementing all my knowledge about biohacking and striving to return to my optimal physical condition.<\/p>\n

Porzingis completed a typical pregame training session and is considered questionable for Friday\u2019s match against the Heat. The Celtics chose to give him the night off, but planned to return him on Saturday. Before the game, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla informed reporters that Porzingis would likely face a minutes limit.<\/p>\n

Given how Saturday\u2019s game unfolded, it seemed that Boston did not restrain Porzingis significantly. He began and participated for 32 minutes, exceeding his season average of 29 minutes per game. The Celtics relied on him during those 32 minutes, as he tallied a team-leading 24 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n
Although Porzingis was successful in scoring, he managed to grab only two rebounds, which may raise some worries. However, he mentioned he felt \u201cfine\u201d after the match.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs of now, there hasn’t been any extreme exhaustion.\u201d \u201cHopefully, that\u2019s all there is,\u201d Porzingis remarked. “Yet, if there happens to be a tomorrow, I\u2019ll complete all my red-light tasks and everything else that I know benefits me.” \u201cNow we have two days until the next one, which is great.\u201d<\/p>\n

The illness represents yet another setback for Porzingis, who has struggled with various injuries during his two seasons with the Celtics. He was sidelined for most of the postseason last year due to a calf injury before experiencing an uncommon leg injury during the NBA Finals. Following knee surgery in the offseason, Porzingis was absent for Boston’s initial 17 games of this season.<\/p>\n

Porzingis noticed that some fans were unhappy with him for being absent even longer on social media. He wished to express that he was also annoyed by his recent absence.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople were curious about what\u2019s happening, why I\u2019ve been away for such an extended time,\u201d Porzingis stated. “To be honest, it was irritating for me.” Sickness, gone. Sickness, gone. Like, this guy can\u2019t perform despite being unwell? I would consider that as well. I simply wanted to inform others that I was truly coping with something and that I would never miss out over a mere cough. If I’m ill, it must be to the extent that I can’t effectively contribute to the team’s performance.<\/p>\n
With Porzingis returning, the Celtics are mostly at full strength, a situation that has been uncommon for them this season. Their favored lineup of Porzingis, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum has only been on the court together for 20 games this season. While managing player rest, it seems the Celtics will aim to enhance their cohesion with the return to full health.<\/p>\n
