Oklahoma football general manager Jim Nagy has added a key member to his team.<\/p>\n
Pete Nakos of On3 reported on Tuesday that OU has brought Taylor Redd on as assistant general manager, working under new football general manager Jim Nagy, who was appointed on Feb. 26.<\/p>\n
In his initial press conference after being hired, Nagy mentioned plans to expand the Sooners’ front office staff. He emphasized his goal of bringing in more people with NFL experience, as Oklahoma aims to operate like an NFL franchise in the evolving college football landscape. The hiring of Redd confirms that Nagy\u2019s plan is now in full motion.<\/p>\n
Redd\u2019s most recent position was as a senior consultant for The Athlete Group, which had partnered with OU during Nagy\u2019s hiring search. It seems that this previous connection played a role in Redd\u2019s move to Norman.<\/p>\n
Founded by Jake Rosenberg just last year, The Athlete Group “focuses on transforming roster management, financial strategies, and team operations in collegiate athletics,” according to its website.<\/p>\n
The Athlete Group also helped OU secure a NIL deal with new quarterback John Mateer, valued at $3 million over two years, as reported by several outlets. Redd reportedly worked closely with OU coach Brent Venables while the Sooners built their winter transfer class.<\/p>\n
Before joining The Athlete Group, Redd spent six seasons as a scout for the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick, remaining with the team until 2024. He also served as the director of player personnel at Wake Forest from 2017 to 2018 before moving on to the NFL.<\/p>\n
Redd\u2019s experience mirrors that of Nagy, who also worked as an NFL scout and has experience in college football as the Executive Director of the Senior Bowl.<\/p>\n
This likely won\u2019t be Nagy\u2019s final hire of the offseason, as he aims to strengthen OU\u2019s front office staff. While the addition of an assistant GM was anticipated, it remains unclear what other roles will be filled under Nagy.<\/p>\n
