The Kentucky Wildcats could be a name to keep an eye on for San Diego State transfer Magoon Gwath.<\/p>\n
The team will be losing a slew of frontcourt players, including former Wake Forest transfer Andrew Carr. Reloading with some size is going to be paramount, especially as they have contacted numerous mid-major guards already.<\/p>\n
Swath, who went to high school in Euless, Texas, and then eventually at Veritas Prep in California, was the Mountain West Conference Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.<\/p>\n
His frame allows him to protect the rim well, averaging 2.6 blocks per game as a freshman. Swath has a ton of upside, and his ability to shoot from deep, averaging 0.7 threes per game last season, adds to his immense talent.<\/p>\n
Per On3\u2019s Joe Tipton, Kentucky is a name that could get in the mix, as is Michigan. He said that there is a lot of \u201csmoke\u201d around both programs, so Kentucky is clearly a major suitor for this standout.<\/p>\n
The Cats were a hotbed for transfers last season and have already had a commitment from Kam Williams, a former Tulane standout guard, that should help them improve their backcourt. With several top-tier freshmen set to join the roster, the Cats will be ripe for another strong season under Mark Pope.<\/p>\n
Swath would be a huge addition, and with Pope a former big man himself, the Kentucky allure may be one that wins for the former Aztecs center, but time will tell if he sees it that way or not.<\/p>\n
In addition, Kentucky is having a Zoom call on Sunday with LSU transfer Vyctorius Miller, according to 247 Sports\u2019 Travis Branham. Other schools in the mix for the 6-foot-5, 185-pound shooting guard are Tennessee, Michigan State, Houston, UCLA, Georgia Tech, Memphis, and USC, among others.<\/p>\n
A 4-star prospect in the class of 2024, Miller averaged 8.9 points on 44.7% shooting (31.8% from deep), 2.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. A lower-leg injury cost him several games down the stretch, including LSU\u2019s blowout loss at Kentucky.<\/p>\n
