Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Benfica defender Tomás Araújo as the club continues to assess potential defensive options for future transfer windows.
According to recent reports, United have carried out multiple checks on the 24-year-old Portugal international, who has impressed with his performances for Benfica. Chelsea are also understood to be monitoring the defender.
Araújo is capable of playing both centre-back and right-back, giving him valuable versatility in defence. His performances have attracted attention from several Premier League clubs, with Tottenham, Newcastle United and Brighton also reported to have watched him.
The situation, however, is not expected to lead to an immediate January transfer. Araújo recently extended his Benfica contract through 2031, with reports stating that the new agreement includes an €80 million release clause.
